Open House and Ribbon Cutting for Brown Funeral Home

The Brown Funeral Home is pleased to announce their Grand Opening and Open House on Tuesday, August 9th, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce will hold a formal ribbon cutting at 5:30pm. The facility is located in the “Historic Murphy Home” at 237 W. Main Street, Wilmington. Light refreshments and pre-arrangement materials will be available at the open house.

The stately brick home with its oft recognized serpentine wall was built in 1913 by the late Maynard and Edith Harlan and passed to their only daughter Maxine. Maxine and her husband Fred A. Murphy then resided in this location and made the architectural changes that added additional space and curb appeal to the property. Upon their passing the home fell in disrepair due to nearly a decade of being uninhabited and the fact that the last updates were completed in the mid 1960’s. Today the home has been given new life and direction.

Paying great attention to detail so to not rob the home and grounds of its appeal & integrity the property has been beautifully reinvented to service Wilmington and surrounding communities. The Brown Funeral Home, partnered by Billy Arehart (great-nephew of the Murphy’s) and Kevin Brown (Funeral Director) will offer creative and affordable solutions in “todays” changing scope. Their vision, enhanced by the “celebration of life” thought process, will serve traditional and non-traditional funerals including cremation and the freedom to express ones ideas for the passing of loved ones.
