SUMMARY:15th Anniversary for South Street Gallery
DESCRIPTION:A beloved downtown Wilmington landmark\, South Street Gallery\, is celebrating its 15th anniversary on Friday\, November 22\, 2024\, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 39 N. South Street.\n\nA highlight of the celebration will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m.\, hosted in partnership with the Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Wilmington. Guests will enjoy live music\, light refreshments\, and snacks\, along with a chance to win glass classes or workshops in a raffle. The community is invited to celebrate this milestone and explore the enduring beauty of stained glass at this special event.\n\nFounded in 2008 by John Schum\, the Gallery has become a cornerstone of Wilmington's artistic community. Known for its striking 13-foot stained glass awning\, designed and created by John and his students\, the Gallery showcases the vibrancy of local artistry. John's journey with stained glass began nearly 40 years ago\, inspired by a PBS NOVA program. After honing his craft in a spare bedroom\, he opened his first studio in 2003 and later established the Gallery as a space for both education and creativity.\n\nThe South Street Gallery offers stained glass classes\, fused glass workshops\, and a venue for local artists to display their work. Notable contributions include stained glass installations at McCoy's Catering\, local churches\, and restaurants.\n\nJohn and his wife\, jody\, continue to teach and create\, with jody leading fused glass workshops that reflect her unique and whimsical style. "We are incredibly grateful for the support of Wilmington\," the couple shared. "It's what keeps small businesses alive and thriving."\n\nSouth Street Gallery is open to the public year-round\, offering a vibrant hub for art\, education\, and community connection.
