The Clinton County History Center invites the community to a day of history\, connection\, and celebration at its 2025 Open House and Annual Meeting on Saturday\, March 15. This free event will offer visitors a chance to tour the historic facility\, engage with local history\, and witness the unveiling of an exciting new exhibit\, "\;Lincoln&rsquo\;s Legacy: The Civil War &\; Clinton County&rsquo\;s Connection 160 Years Later."\;
\n\nThe Open House will take place from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM\, offering free tours of the History Center&rsquo\;s historic facility and the opportunity to explore the brand-new exhibit\, \;Lincoln&rsquo\;s Legacy: The Civil War &\; Clinton County&rsquo\;s Connection 160 Years Later. Visitors can mingle with fellow history enthusiasts while enjoying light refreshments. At 12:30 PM\, a special ribbon-cutting ceremony\, in conjunction with the Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce\, will mark the official opening of \;Lincoln&rsquo\;s Legacy\, with local leaders and History Center representatives on hand to commemorate the occasion. The Annual Meeting will begin at 2:00 PM\, where attendees can learn about the Clinton County History Center&rsquo\;s 2024 accomplishments and hear exciting updates and plans for the future.
\n\nThe highlight of this year&rsquo\;s Open House is the launch of \;Lincoln&rsquo\;s Legacy: The Civil War &\; Clinton County&rsquo\;s Connection 160 Years Later. This immersive exhibit commemorates the 160th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln&rsquo\;s assassination while exploring Clinton County&rsquo\;s role in the Civil War. Visitors will discover powerful stories of local soldiers\, families\, and abolitionists through artifacts\, letters\, photographs\, and personal accounts. Key features include Civil War-era memorabilia\, reflections on Lincoln&rsquo\;s assassination\, and accounts of Clinton County&rsquo\;s involvement in the Underground Railroad.
\n\n&ldquo\;This exhibit bridges our local history with national events\, offering visitors a unique perspective on how the Civil War shaped our community\,&rdquo\; said Shelby Boatman\, Director at the Clinton County History Center. &ldquo\;We are thrilled to share these stories and artifacts with the public.&rdquo\;
\n\nThe \;Lincoln&rsquo\;s Legacy \;exhibit officially opens on March 13 and will be available for public viewing during regular hours: Thursdays and Fridays from 1:00&ndash\;4:00 PM\, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM&ndash\;2:00 PM.
