DESCRIPTION:Mike Elsass is a nationally recognized artist with works in more than 2\,000 private collections featuring abstract images painted on sheets of reused and recycled steel with a resin finish.\n\n\n\nWilmington College will present an exhibit of his acrylics and mixed media March 18 through April 24 in Harcum Gallery\, which is located in Boyd Cultural Arts Center. A public reception in honor of the artist will be held March 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. Regular gallery hours are weekdays\, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.\, and by special appointment arranged by gallery curator Hal Shunk\, professor of art.\n\n\n\n"My art is spiritual\, meditative and is based on emotion\, appreciation of opportunity and the energy of people and places." Elsass said. "I am mindful of the moment when paint\, color\, texture and discovery meet."\n\nHe explained his work involves the often painstaking and protracted process painting\, sponging and sanding. Many pieces have more than 40 coats of paint and glazing   the work evolves until the final coating.\n\n"My steel art represents strength\, life's trials\, aging\, imperfection and beauty\," he added.
