WILMINGTON, Ohio—Ladies, start your engines and mark your calendars!
It’s about time to head to the Foster J. Boyd, MD, Regional Cancer Center for the Sixth Annual Brake for Breakfast where those attending can receive a free on-the-go breakfast, opportunities to win door prizes and an abundance of information on the importance of breast cancer screening.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The drive through event is from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the cancer center, 31 Farquhar Ave. The event is designed for motorists only and not pedestrians, organizers emphasize. In an effort to limit traffic congestion, motorists are asked once again to enter the employee parking lot off of West Locust Street and exit the main Farquhar Avenue entrance.
Every year, more than 600 people participate in the event which this year will once again be a collaborative effort between CMH Regional Health System, OHC and the American Cancer Society.
Those attending will be encouraged to schedule a mammogram. Those scheduling mammogram appointments at CMH Diagnostic Imaging Services during the next year are eligible for several prizes.
A screening mammogram can be scheduled, without a physician’s referral, by patients who are 35 years of age or older. Women must be symptom free, not pregnant or breast feeding. This exam is considered a routine screening procedure and an appointment can be made by calling CMH at (937) 382-9595. Patients will have to name a physician with whom the results can be shared. Women with symptoms need to contact a physician about a referral for a diagnostic mammogram.
Women without insurance are encouraged to contact the American Cancer Society Resource Line at 800-227-2345.
Recognized by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, CMH Diagnostic Imaging Services is a fully integrated women’s breast cancer center and is fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. CMH averages more than 5,400 mammogram procedures per year.
OHC is a multi-specialty oncology physician practice with 20 office locations in Greater Cincinnati and one at the Foster J. Boyd, MD, Regional Cancer Center.
The cancer program at CMH, including the Foster J. Boyd, MD, Regional Cancer Center, is accredited by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS).
Since February 2007, the Boyd has offered a range of oncology services, programs and staff expertise. Dr. Boyd, who died in 2010, was an original member of the CMH Medical Staff in 1951. He became active in the American Cancer Society (ACS) in the 1960s after noticing the high prevalence of cancer in the area. He would stay active with the ACS the rest of his life and was integral to CMH’s cancer services growth in the 1970s and the program being first formally recognized in 1991 by the ACoS Commission on Cancer.
