Conflict and Peace in World History

Wittenberg University and the Midwest World History Association Conference will be hosting a series of public events exploring the issue of Conflict and Peace in World History on September 27, 2013.  In the afternoon, six local museums and archives will present posters highlighting their collections on war, peace, and peacemaking in southwest Ohio.  That event, at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 27, will take place in the Thomas Library on Wittenberg’s campus.  Admission is free, and parking is available at the Wittenberg Student Center.  Institutions participating include: Antioch College, Central State University, Clark County Historical Society, Dayton International Peace Museum, Quaker Heritage Center at Wilmington College, and Wittenberg University.  The poster exhibit will be followed by a free public lecture at 7:30 p.m. in Bayley Auditorium in the Barbara Deere Kuss Science Center.  The speaker is a nationally known expert on the First World War, Michael Neiberg, who will travel from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA, to speak about “The Outbreak of War in 1914: A New Look at an Old Problem.”  The lecture will include a dessert reception and a book signing of Neiberg’s recent book, Dance of the Furies.  Funding for this program was made possible in part by the Ohio Humanities Council with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
