Cowan Lake ADA-compliant EZ Paddle Sports Launch & Lotus Cove Trail Grand Opening

The Friends Caring for Cowan Lake State Park, along with project partners and community supporters, will celebrate the grand opening of two new recreational amenities at Cowan Lake State Park on Saturday, September 19, beginning at noon.

The celebration will begin at the park's new ADA-compliant EZ paddle sports launch and handicapped parking area, located on the north side of Cowan Lake between the Campground Beach and the boat launch. Following the launch celebration, attendees will proceed to the trailhead for the Lotus Cove Trail.

The new EZ Kayak launch is designed to provide greater accessibility for park guests, making it easier for individuals with mobility challenges to enjoy paddle sports and experience Cowan Lake. The project also includes a dedicated handicapped parking area.

The approximately $61,000 project was made possible through the generous support of several local organizations and businesses, including:

• Clinton County LEGACY Fund — $20,000
• Clinton County Convention & Visitors Bureau — $19,000
• Friends Caring for Cowan Lake State Park — $15,000
• First State Bank – Wilmington — $7,000

Together, these contributions helped make the new accessible launch and parking area a reality for visitors to Cowan Lake State Park.

The grand opening will begin at 12 p.m. at the EZ paddle sports launch, followed by the group’s procession to the Lotus Cove Trailhead.

To reach the launch, enter Cowan Lake State Park through the main entrance and proceed through the Visitor's Gate. Continue all the way down to the lake, then turn into the launch's handicapped parking lot.

Following the launch celebration, attendees will travel to the Lotus Cove Trailhead. Exit the park onto Osborn Road and turn right. Continue a short distance before going straight onto the Cowan Lake access road, which passes the park's Maintenance Building. The trailhead parking lot is located on the left, directly past the Maintenance Building.
