The Clinton County Health District’s WIC office is celebrating the grand opening of a new Mother’s Milk Bank of Ohio Milk Donation Site. Human milk is considered the most healthy and best source of nutrition for both premature and full-term infants. Many health benefits are associated with the consumption of human milk. Donor human milk is a critical medical intervention for premature and fragile babies. In the most vulnerable premature infants, donor milk provides a helpful bridge for effective breastfeeding. More than 90% of U.S. NICUs now use donor milk to prevent life-threatening diseases that can affect high-risk newborns. Mother’s that are currently breastfeeding their newborns sometimes have an excess supply of milk. They can contact the Ohio Health Mother’s Milk Bank to find out about becoming a donor. After a screening and approval process, milk can then be dropped off at approved donation sites.
The Clinton County Health District donation site provides a convenient location for mothers in Southwest Ohio to drop off pumped milk that will then be transported to Columbus at no cost to them. Please see the press release from the Wilmington News Journal https://www.wnewsj.com/2024/
