Post a photo of yourself on the trail on social media and tag your local elected officials and decision makers, sharing why the trail matters to you. Write a letter to your local elected officials including your mayor, town or city council members, or county commissioner. Let them know that you appreciate the trails and connected trail infrastructure that’s in your community and that having safe spaces to walk, bike and be active outside matters to you! Share a personal message about how the trail has impacted you personally—by giving you space to be active and well, making active transportation possible, or bringing more opportunities to your small business. This will make your letter more meaningful.
Write a letter to the editor at your local newspaper to acknowledge the elected officials in your community for their leadership in helping create and connect trails. If there is something you wish they’d do more of, you can include that, too! You can find information about how to submit a letter on the media outlet’s website. www.wnewsj.com
