Position Summary

The Clinton County Public Defender’s Office is seeking a dedicated, motivated, and client centered attorney to serve as an Assistant Public Defender. This position provides legal representation to indigent individuals charged with criminal offenses and other matters as assigned by the court. The successful candidate will be committed to protecting constitutional rights, advocating for clients, and promoting equal access to justice.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

•Represent indigent clients in juvenile, misdemeanor, and felony criminal cases.
• Conduct client interviews and maintain regular communication with clients regarding case status and legal options.
• Prepare and present cases in court, including arraignments, pretrial hearings, motions, trials, and sentencing hearings.
• Perform legal research and draft motions, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents.
• Negotiate with prosecutors to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
• Maintain accurate case files and documentation in accordance with office policies and professional standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

•Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload effectively and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to public service and the representation of indigent clients.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
