Seeking Executive Director for the Clinton County Foundation

POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinton County Foundation (CCF), a CFNS accredited community foundation with $35 million in assets, seeks a qualified professional to serve as its Executive Director and the lead visionary for future growth. Working in conjunction with the Foundation’s Board, the Executive Director (ED) will serve as the strategic leader of the organization’s short and long-term goals and be the principal contact for the Foundation.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Experience leading or working with community foundations, planned giving, legal agreements and documents, and wealth management communications.
● Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five continuous years of related experience.
● Experience working with financial institutions, legal professionals, and boards of trustees.
● Demonstrated knowledge of investing, asset allocation, and fund accounting.
● Experience managing staff, fundraising, donor identification and development, understanding financial reports, and working in planned giving environments.
● Experience hiring, leading, and supporting staff. ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in basic office systems and programs.
● Strong analytical, writing, and oral presentation skills, and creative problem-solving.
● Knowledge of local and regional institutions and key leaders as related to Foundation history, donor development, and overall philanthropic endeavors.
● Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
● A demonstrated knowledge of, and passion for, the work of public charities and community philanthropy.
● Proven success in fundraising through the cultivation of donors.
● Knowledge of effective nonprofit governance practices and first-hand experience with nonprofit organizations.
● Project management skills that demonstrate an ability to set and meet deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Development, Planning, and Implementation
● Work with the Board to prepare short and long-term strategic and operational plans to achieve the Foundation’s mission.
● Work with the Executive Committee, Board Committees, and Board leadership to implement all Board decisions.
● Provide leadership in developing CCF staff and programs.
● In collaboration with the Board of Trustees, the staff, and other key stakeholders, the ED develops and executes the Foundation’s strategic plan and long-term goals.
● Maintain skills and knowledge of best practices within the field of philanthropy.
● Attend seminars and professional training institutes as appropriate.
Fund and Donor Development
● Develop a sustainable asset base by building long-term relationships with current and future donors and fund holders.
● Oversee all fund development and fundraising activities including event planning, grant writing, and identifying new sources of donors.
● Where appropriate, grow and increase the diversity of existing funds and work to obtain new funds by managing donor agreements and looking for planned giving opportunities.
● Coordinate and track all required and supportive work done with all CCF funds. Fiscal Management
● Ensure the CCF is meeting budget and is able to deliver on its mission, including the necessary financial discipline and the investment in resources needed to achieve its goals.
● In conjunction with the Investment Committee, ensure the assets of the CCF are invested in accordance with the guidelines and investment policy.
● Work with the Executive Committee on preparing budgets. Board and Committee Relations
● Cultivate relationships with the Board of Trustees and lead Board development activities. Assist in the recruitment of new board members; conduct new Board member training.
● Oversee the preparation and distribution of Board/Committee materials. Oversee official correspondence of the organization, and jointly, with designated officers, execute legal documents.
● Work with the Board president to set board meeting schedules, draft agendas, organize related materials gathered from all committees, invite guests, set special meetings, and ensure all meetings follow the code of regulations for corporate activity of the organization.
● Attend all applicable and required meetings and keep the Board informed on the condition of the organization.
● Serve as ex-officio on all Board committees. Coordinate and capture all related work of the Board committees - Executive, Governance, Audit, Investment & Finance, Marketing & Development.
Human Resource Management
● Ensure the Foundation has the necessary staff and resources to achieve its goals and its mission.
● Manage the Foundation’s staffing needs, including hiring, termination, and ongoing staff development, and provide verbal and/or written evaluations of staff. Inform the Board of Trustees regarding staffing issues as appropriate.
● Ensure the Foundation complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws as they pertain to staffing . Community Relations, Communications/Social Media, and Marketing
● Promote the CCF’s visibility through participation and membership in community forums, civic organizations, and activities that align with the CCF mission and vision.
● Develop and implement long-term marketing plans.
● Manage website, print, and other social media.
● Serve as the Foundation’s representative and key contact to the greater community for questions, requests, and community engagement issues related to the CCF.
● Provide education and assistance to the public in understanding the CCF’s interests, mission, and concerns via in-person presentations and associated electronic and written media. Administrative Management and Technology
● Oversee the administrative components of the CCF, including contracts and outside consultants.
● Work with the CCF’s legal counsel to ensure legal and regulatory compliance in all aspects of CCF operations, including preserving all official records and documents.
● Maintain the CNFS national accreditation.
● Manage and sustain all CCF software systems for donors, financial services, grants, and scholarships.
● Specifically, understand and manage the Foundant Community Suite with Grant Lifecycle Manager, Scholarship Lifecycle Manager and Google Workspace.
● Maintain close relationships with our investment partners, attorneys, and external audit firms.
CANDIDATES PLEASE NOTE: This position requires a flexible working schedule of 40 hours per week and will require some evening and weekend work due to the nature of the industry and specific duties. The start date of the position is projected to be early July 2025. In addition, a competitive compensation package will be solely based on the selected individual’s experience and how they meet the qualifications. This process will include multiple interviews.
