Part-Time Seasonal Laborer (Parks & Recreation Department)

The City of Wilmington is currently accepting applications for Part-Time Seasonal Laborers to assist with the maintenance and upkeep of City parks, green spaces, and recreational facilities. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy outdoor work and want to contribute to the beautification and functionality of our community spaces.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director or designee, seasonal laborers are responsible for performing a variety of general labor and maintenance tasks in City parks, trails, and rights-of-way. Duties may include landscaping, mowing, grounds cleanup, equipment maintenance, and other seasonal support activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mow lawns, trim trees, weed eat, and maintain landscaping in parks and along sidewalks and rights-of-way

  • Sweep, shovel, and collect debris, leaves, and rubbish from park grounds and trails

  • Clean and maintain park structures, shelters, playground equipment, and vehicles

  • Assist with snow and ice removal as needed

  • Comply with all OSHA safety standards and City safety policies

  • Attend trainings and meetings as directed

  • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record with no more than 4 points

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $12.00/hour

  • This is a seasonal, non-classified, part-time position and is not eligible for benefits
