The Wilmington College Peace Resource Center and Harcum Gallery are pleased to announce the exhibition, “Kita Kazuaki (1934-2012): Ceramics for the Nuclear Age,” August 6-October 11, 2024 (M-F: 9-5 p.m.), Harcum Gallery, Boyd Cultural Arts Center, Wilmington College.
A public exhibition opening will take place in the Wilmington College Harcum Gallery on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. Kita Kazuaki (1934-2012) was a Japanese ceramicist from Nagano prefecture, Japan whose wartime experiences later led him to reject nuclear weapons and military violence. From 1982-1986, prominent nuclear disarmament and peace activist Milton Lowenthal coordinated a N. American tour of Kita’s anti-nuclear ceramics. In 2023, Lowenthal’s daughters, Ms. Hara Bouganim and Ms. Linda Lipschutz, donated a collection of 19 of Kita’s works to the Peace Resource Center in honor of their father and his continual efforts toward global peace. |
